Used Wheel Chairs

Saving Money With Used Wheel Chairs

There are times when used wheel chairs are a better option than new wheelchairs.  These times are when costs outweigh the frequency of use.  For instance, an individual hosting a disabled family member or friend will not need the wheelchair long.  Also, when the injury is temporary, or when the injury is one of many potentially fatal occurrences, used wheel chairs become far more practical than their new counterparts.

Used wheel chairs come in many different types and models, fulfilling different needs.  These used wheel chairs can be purchased anywhere from homes that are upgrading to yard sales.  The cost-saving benefits of buying used is enough to make even those with expensive electric wheelchairs take notice and purchase a used model as a spare or fill-wheelchair.  Many of the used chairs are in excellent condition with little wear or tear on them, and may even include a few customized features.

The most common used wheel chairs are folding wheelchairs.  These wheelchairs have the traditional two large wheels that allow for easy manual operation of the wheelchair.  There are also two handles that allow for easy pushing of the wheelchair.  These types of used wheel chairs are multi-functional and very versatile.  They are not often customized; therefore, it is hard to tell if the wheelchair is used or not.  This wheelchair is great for many reasons, and can even be used as a full-time wheelchair by those who simply want to get around with their own power. These used chairs are also often used by those who have better, motorized, full-time wheelchairs for at home, or when the other wheelchair is being charged.

Other types of common used wheel chairs include the smaller chairs with four small wheels.  These are great for those who wish to use the wheelchair temporarily, such as when family or friends are coming over.  This wheelchair is not designed to be maneuvered by the occupant, but rather pushed by a person from behind.  This wheelchair does have the advantage of folding up into a small space, and often comes with a bag or box that it is able to travel in.  This wheelchair is best for those individuals who have a hard time walking for any long periods of times.

Motorized used wheel chairs can often be purchased for discounted prices.  These used chairs are often discarded when an upgrade has been made in the model used by the individual.  These wheelchairs tend to be more expensive than the manual kind and often come customized for the original occupant.  If this customization does not bother the individual looking to make the purchase, good deals can come out of purchasing a motorized used wheelchair.  However, potential buyers must always be sure that the battery and the motor are good, and check if a warranty is offered or transferable.  If all of these check out, used motorized wheelchairs can be some of the best buys.  Still, no matter the needs or desires of handicapped individuals, researching used wheel chairs opens up an entirely new world of options, a world often more cost-efficient, but also more varied and even unique.
