Vacationing In Style With A Travel Wheelchair

While many look first to the power and style of wheelchairs, sometimes practicality is most important.  You will want your wheelchair to be comfortable and molded to your needs; not too big, not too small, with a wide cushioned seat and arm rests adjusted to the right height.  Also, you will want your wheelchair to get you where you need to go.  A travel wheelchair lets you take your wheelchair with you, so no matter where you are, you have your means of transportation.  While a travel wheelchair is a manual wheelchair, it is still one of the most convenient options; plus, you can have your motorized wheelchair at home, but with this secondary wheelchair, you can ensure you will always have a way to travel no matter where you are.

However, one of these wheelchairs is not necessarily meant to be your primary wheelchair.  These wheelchairs are smaller and lighter, and they often are not as durable.  But for their cheap price, they do afford you the ability to never be without a wheelchair, even when your full-sized, motorized wheelchair is at home.  Even with its small size, however, a travel wheelchair can still have a weight capacity of up to 300 pounds, even though the wheelchair itself will average around 15 pounds.  Usually, the armrests and footrests are either foldable or removable, although sometimes the armrests cannot be repositioned.  A travel wheelchair will be able to fold up completely for easy storage in a car, suitcase, closet or anywhere else you might want to put your wheelchair for safe keeping.

While motorized wheelchairs are often seen as the stylish, glamour wheelchairs, with their motors and their colors and their accessories, you should not be fooled.  A travel wheelchair can come with any number of features as well, including back pockets, key rings, cup holders, travel bags, designer upholstery and extensive color pallets.  Some include restaurant-style armrests that can fold down and away to allow you to eat comfortable at tables. Also, almost every travel wheelchair comes with its own carrying bag included in the price, to protect your wheelchair and keep it clean while on a journey.  While these wheelchairs are small and seemingly fragile, they come with a number of safety additions as well, including standard rear-wheel locks, optional seat belts, composite wheels and lifetime warranties.

A travel wheelchair gives you the chance to go out and enjoy life without having to worry about being a burden on anyone else.  You are no longer confined to where you can bring your motorized wheelchair; your fun and enjoyment no longer depends on if you access to a wheelchair van or some other means of transporting your big, heavy wheelchair.  Now you can keep that wheelchair at home and bring your travel wheelchair with you wherever you go, whenever you want to go there.  These wheelchairs are affordable and light-weight, but they are not without power, because they have the power to overcome your injury and give you back the entire world.
